Congratulations! You have a new pup!

We at Animal General Hospital know how important this new addition is to your family, and for your convenience, we are offering complete preventative care plans for your pup. In addition to giving your pup the correct preventative health care, these plans offer considerable savings for you.

Puppies need a series of three sets of vaccinations, administered every three to four weeks, starting at the age of 6 – 8 weeks old.

Below is the recommended schedule for vaccines:

–Vaccination Schedule–
Puppies are NOT immune to Distemper and Parvovirus until at least 2 weeks after the last injection in the puppy series! The pup may get sick with these diseases anytime before that time. It is very important that your pup be isolated from other dogs as much as possible until that time. Do NOT take the puppy out and associate with other dogs any more than is necessary until we have finished the immunization series. Other dogs may be carriers of diseases contagious to your dog, even when they do not appear sick themselves.

Heartworm and intestinal parasite prevention: Heartguard tablets give once per month. Start at six weeks of age, and continue for the rest of the pet’s life.

Flea Control: Advantage application once per month. Start at eight weeks of age, and continue for the rest of the pet’s life.

Dental Health: CET Toothpaste & brush daily

Care of Coat & Skin: Bathe and condition once every 1 to 2 weeks. Use ONLY our recommended shampoos. Because dogs require different ingredients and PH levels in their shampoos, human shampoos can cause irritation to the skin.

Environment: Protect from temperature variations. Remember its 8-10 degrees cooler on the floor in your house than up at your eye level because heat rises.

Nutrition: Feed Premium dry dog food moistened with warm water. A small amount of canned food may be added for flavor, but really is not necessary. Premium food is much more concentrated than other foods and definitely better for the health and growth of your puppy.  Feed 4-6 times daily all it can eat in 15 minutes. Do NOT leave food out continuously as this makes housebreaking much harder!  Feed NO table scraps they cause nutritional imbalances and diarrhea!
